What Exactly does the Om Symbol mean?
The Om or Aum symbol is a sacred syllable representing the Brahman trinity. The sounds a, u, and m are identified with the three Brahman trinity deities, Brahma (creator), Vishnu (sustainer), and Shiva (destroyer). These three sounds represent beginning, continuation, and end.
Om is usually spoken at the beginning of Hindu prayers, recitations, or during chanting. Over time Aum was integrated into mainstream Buddhism which typically identifies the sounds with the Dharma body, the reward body, and the manifested body known as the Buddha’s three bodies.
